May 9-11 Ireland Vacation Post 1 of 3

I hope you enjoy viewing these 25 photos from May 9-11, 2018 during  our vacation in Ireland. Optionally click on a photo for a larger view and slide show.

This is the first of three posts of this vacation.

During these 3 days, we stayed in the Shannon Springs Hotel next to the airport in the town of Shannon. Trudy and I joined two friends Madeleine Carr and Barbara Wilson, and rented a car to drive ourselves to see the sites west of the airport along the coast in County Clare.

The second and third posts of this vacation span the 11 days when we joined 18 other participants of the Wild Routes Ireland Bealtaine Blossoms Tour.

This figure identifies our 3 lodging locations in
SW Ireland.

Our first breakfast in Ireland!

Madeleine and Barbara near the entrance to the Dromoland
Castle in Newmarket  on Fergus, County Clare. This was a
fortunate, unplanned stop. We enjoyed the privately-owned
castle and adjoining gardens.

My goal was to sample a different type of
beer every day in Ireland. I had a great
time not fulfilling this goal, while sampling
all kinds of brews. Previously, my beer
preference was lager. While in Ireland, I
drank my first Guinness and my second
and my third and ...

Madeleine, Trudy, and Barbara (and I) had a great time!
This was photo was near the beginning of a hike in the
Burren National Park.

Looks like a fossilized angel's wing!

Early Purple Orchid

After the hike, we had lunch in the Bofey Quins Restaurant in
the town of  Corofin

The Irish Stew was FANTASTIC.

The Cliffs of Moher - Maximum height is 702 feet!

The color of Ireland is GREEN.

Another worthwhile, unplanned stop: Mouth of Moore Bay
at the town of Kilkee.

More sea cliff views driving south from Kilkee along the
Loop Head Peninsula.
