July 14 River Boat Tour at Wakulla Springs

I took the first 8 of these images on July 14 during a river boat tour by Pat Mahoney in the Wakulla Springs State Park.  The remaining 7 images of a Common Gallinule chick and its mother were taken from the boat dock just after the tour. So these 15 photos are not my best in a day, week, or even a month. These are my favorite images in 90 minutes! These river boat tours provide many, so many opportunites of close-up views of diverse wildlife in high abundance.  I am fond of saying, "The river delivers."

Sunrise at Wakulla Beach

David Moynahan and I arrived at Wakulla Beach about 30 minutes before sunrise. The wind was calm. At first light when the sun began to illuminate the clouds with color, we were in a flurry of photographic activity. The sky, clouds, and water changed color minute by minute. I bracketed exposures of many compositions, and later in Photoshop manually blended them to achieve images with color in the sky and water, as well as in the foreground marsh grass. If the range of brightness and vivid colors of these images seems surreal, then I have successfully communicated my feelings about that glorious morning ... an Unbelievable, Fantasy-Dream.

Water lilies and more

June 19, 2014 - There is a bumper crop of water lily flowers along the Lighthouse Road in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge this year. So I arrived at sunrise for primo light, and was rewarded with water lilies and so much more.  The pink wildflower is a Sabatia sp., one of my favorites.
